May 15-18, 2025: Our cherished annual Church Camp, with special musical guests!

May 15-18, 2025

Celebrate the Divine Heart of Gracia Divina Colorado with Church Camp!

Folks, it’s been “a year”. And yet the year is still in full swing, if you know what we mean.
So many sweeping changes to our existence emphasizes the importance of communing together, outdoors in nature, and in the safe embarce of camaraderie. I am calling our get-togethers a Convivium—a consortium that has warmth and conviviality. Our hearts will surely need to unite to weather all that life is throwing at us, and Church Camp is the perfect time for such deep comfort to occur.  Join us for Church Camp Week, for extra time in fellowship, prayer, and fun together. The middle of May is perfect camping weather at our La Mesa Venue, so gift yourself with this special week of renewal. Church Camp will include yoga classes, flower limpias, massage therapy offerings, hikes, two grandmother ceremonies, and one grandfather ceremony. There will be plenty of space for quiet contemplative time, as well as social sangha time. This will be held on our 50-acre venue outside of Paonia, Colorado, surrounded by sacred public lands, and close to our thriving river corridor. Our large pond and beach will be available for swimming, as well as readily accessible trips to the nearby North Fork River. There is ample hiking available right outside our doors!

We’re aiming for attendance by special musical guests, as well as your grace-filled songstress muses, aka helpers, and ministers and local musicians. Your voice will round out the choir perfectly!

Please note that you will need to contact Matthew for Sunday attendance.

About our lineage:
The board, ministers, and Sangha of Gracia Divina Church are your hosts for this great opportunity to experience Cristina’s uniquely subtle and powerful healing through voice, essence, and Heart.  Marie Luna has been a friend and organizer to Maria Cristina since 1997 and is a carrier of her unique Peruvian mestizo curandera lineage.  Gracia Divina Church was founded in 2016, twenty years after their meeting, with Marie Luna as Head Minister in North America.  Maria Cristina has been gracefully facilitating healing circles for over twenty years from her home base in Peru, and abroad.  She is a student of Jorge Gonzales, Don Solon Tello, and other esteemed elders.

“Mestizo” means “mixed cultural background” in Latin America, and is reflective of the rich and varied backgrounds of people with ancestors from the Americas and Europe.  When Gracia Divina speaks of mestizo medicine lineages we are making a clear distinction from indigenous medicine lineages, which are composed of our sisters and brothers whose indigenous ancestors courageously survived genocide and persecution during colonial times, all the while protecting the many medicine traditions of what are now known as the Americas.  In later centuries, indigenous peoples graciously shared their medicine ways with those of mixed ancestral backgrounds; these individuals and groups shared the medicine path with their peers in urban centers and small towns throughout the Americas and beyond…to what has become a global healing phenomenon.

Financial Aid Donations:

This event is Gracia Divina’s biggest fundraiser of the year, and we understand the cost is greater than our regular events.  From those who are able, additional donations are most appreciated, and can be made along with registration.  All donations received here will be used exclusively for financial aid to these retreats with Cristina, so that those who would like to participate but cannot afford to do so may receive assistance.  Please consider helping to make this opportunity possible for someone who otherwise could not attend.  We prioritize offering these special donated funds to support marginalized communities.

For those interested in receiving financial aid, please be in touch: you will be considered in midsummer, based on the total amount of donations we receive for this purpose.

Helpers:
Our helper spots have been filled.  Thank you for understanding.

Registration requires an online deposit of $600.  The $900 balance will be paid in CASH upon arrival in Pucallpa.  Spaces are limited.  Please be advised deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable, unless the event is wait-listed or canceled.  In the event of a wait-list transfer, there will be a $200 fee.

Dieta

“What exactly is a dieta retreat?” you may ask.  It’s an intensive dive into Amazonian medicine ways.  Unlike a retreat where we come together for two or three consecutive night ceremonies with our sacramental plants, a dieta is much longer – and it incorporates another featured (non-entheogenic) medicine plant or plant blend, which is consumed as a daily tea.  Group ceremonies are held every other day.  Food is limited to two very basic meals per day, for the purpose of clearing and opening us up to the healing properties of the plant(s) on which we’re concentrated.

Pucallpa

Participants will land by air in the bustling jungle town of Pucallpa, Peru, and stay the first night in Don Jose’s guesthouse.  This is a great place to get to know the other participants, as they arrive from all over the world, and to share some delicious meals prepared by the guesthouse staff.  There will also be time to venture out to the traditional markets, to view local art, etc.

Campo Munay

The location of the dieta retreat itself is a 3 1/2 hour drive from Pucallpa, then a half hour boat ride, then a half hour hike (!) into the deep jungle.  All the travel is worth it.  Campo Munay is a large expanse of land and water, lovingly cared for by Don Jose and his team for decades.  It holds a camp kitchen for group meals, many individual tambos (think permanent glamping structures, each with a real bed, hammock, and desk), and a generous maloka ideal for ceremony in the jungle.  The natural beauty itself is a divine sanctuary, and – at least the times I’ve visited – the bugs have not been bad.

Lineage

Don Jose Campos has been practicing these modalities for forty years.  He has worked extensively in his homeland of Peru and also toured the world.  He has written a beloved nonfiction book and also recorded a classic album (under an alias).  Although Jose is not personally affiliated with Gracia Divina’s lineage holder Cristina, they know of and respect one another’s work – and they share a common teacher in the late Solon Tello.  The two sing many of the same songs: it’s fascinating to observe a more masculine expression of the icaros we’ve been singing for years with Cristina and GDC ministers.  Many students of Cristina work with Jose, and vice versa.

Testimonial

I have had the pleasure of doing a first dieta retreat with Jose Campos in summer 2015, and a second in spring 2023: both were quite profound, and they deepened my personal practice.  I was so inspired by my last retreat, and by Don Jose’s work, I began discussions on bringing a group down to meet him the following year.  I hope you’ll join us!  Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Best wishes,

Jason @ Gracia Divina
